Chapter 4

We were greeted by the large iron doors that locked our mansion made of brick and cement. With a forceful kick from my father, it swung open. Rotted on its’ hinges the door nearly fell off. My father smiled deviously as we entered.

“Finally.” I heard him say faintly. My father led me through a maze of hallways that I could have never figured out by myself. He showed me a wooden door that was about three times my size. It was beautifully woven with metal accents. As he pushed the handles, I was exposed to a gigantic room. A red carpet led up to the throne made of gold and bones. I cringed in distaste. If this was my fathers, how could he have lived like this? It was dead, like no one had been there for years. The whole Underworld was like that. My fragile mind was shattered by my father's obstructing voice.

“Come with me.” He yanked me ahead. I was a little hesitant but my limbs indecisively agreed. We climbed the stairs to the enviable position and he sat me up onto the throne. “How does your future feel, son?” He smiled softly. For once, I could see the pleasure in his eyes.

“Good I guess.” I adjusted myself back and looked up. The light was shining through a small crack in the ceiling. It honestly felt weird to think that my future was under my butt. “Dad, do I have to become king? Can I go home?” I asked in discontent, afraid he might lash out in anger. Surprisingly, he only laughed.

“Son, you are home. And yes you do. It has been foretold for centuries that you, my child, would repair this world and build up a new empire. You will vanquish The Savior and bring life back to the dead!” He raised his hand into the air as he spoke, trying to glorify me as much as possible.

“W-who is The Savior?” I was unsure who he was talking about, but the way he said it, I knew it wasn’t good.

“The Savior is the daughter of Aesir. He is a god, therefore she is just as powerful. She wants to kill us all off. You. Me. Everyone.” The anger flooded his scarlet eyes and he snarled and the thought of them. “They have been our enemy for centuries, son. You need to know- Every Angel must die, for they serve no purpose but to wipe us out” He roared into the still air.

“Its ok Dad. If it makes you happy, I’ll vanquish them for you.” I said as I hoped it would make him happy again. Father seemed to have stopped to think for a minute. He turned to me and prepared to speak.

“Tievel, do you want to see your room?” My father was overall done with his fit of discontent. I agreed. We engaged in small talk as he led me up a long and winding staircase. It wasn’t dramatically long but it was not the shortest climb either. My father and I reached the room in which I would be staying. This time he actually used the door handle in moderation. It creaked and whined as he moved it open. I was in awe when I saw a king sized bed draped by curtains. There was a huge window that overlooked the whole kingdom, and even a walk-in closet.

“Wow! This is great!” I said joyfully. I ran to my bed and with an immense leap, I landed in a heap of plush cushioned comfort. Sinking in I snuggled deep. The scent was off, it smelled like a woman. I decided to not worry about that, for I was too riled up the excitement of having my own room! Somewhere to call home- A father… I stretched out against the soft linen sheet and closed my eyes.

“I’ll leave you to your room.” Father said in a satisfied voice. My thoughts were pleasant. The past didn’t matter, because I had a future. I rested in the idea of being royalty. I am going to be a king! A small laugh emerged from my mouth. Tonight was going to be a night to remember- the night that I found my family.
